CAMP HILL, Pa. (Oct. 6, 2022) — Zindell Richardson, DMD, of Lexington, Ky., has been named government dental officer for United Concordia Dental, a national dental solutions partner.

“Dr. Richardson brings more than 40 years of experience in dentistry – including 30 in leadership roles – to United Concordia Dental, as well as extensive knowledge of government programs like the TRICARE Dental Program, the TRICARE Active Duty Dental Program and Medicaid,” said Ed Shellard, DMD, president and CEO, United Concordia Dental. “As we continue to grow our government business area, having a dentist knowledgeable about these lines of business is key to helping us deliver personalized dental solutions that meet the unique oral health needs of our military and federal employee communities.”

In this role, Dr. Richardson will serve as the dental-clinical authority for government programs, including the U.S. Department of Defense, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. He will also oversee dental policy, clinical quality assurance, and utilization review and management for United Concordia’s government business.

Most recently, Dr. Richardson served as the associate dean of Clinical Affairs at the University of Kentucky College of Dentistry, where he led the university’s teledentistry and artificial intelligence efforts. He also served as a commander of the 59th Dental Training Squadron at Lackland Air Force Base and the 78th Dental Squadron at Robins Air Force Base, as well as chief of Dental Program Management at the Air Force Medical Operations Agency. Dr. Richardson began his career as a general dentist, practicing in Lexington, Ky., before serving as a general dentist with the United States Air Force.
