Expanded United Concordia Dental product promotes total health by integrating oral care and support for chronic conditions
Jun 10, 2026

CAMP HILL, Pa. (June 10, 2026) – Employers now have more options to support their employees' oral and overall health through United Concordia Dental’s expanded Smile for Health® Wellness product. With an additional coverage level, these enhancements provide vital dental support for a wider range of chronic conditions associated with increased gum disease and cavities.

“Employers want to support their teams’ well-being, and employees are looking for more targeted ways to take charge of their health,” said Roosevelt Allen, DDS, MAGD, ABGD, chief dental officer, United Concordia Dental. “That’s why we continue to expand our products and services beyond traditional dental coverage. Our updated Smile for Health Wellness benefit provides oral care solutions designed to help individuals manage chronic conditions, while supporting a healthier workforce.”

The enhanced Smile for Health Wellness introduces two coverage tiers: Core, which reflects the existing benefit, and a new Premier option, offering flexible solutions to meet dental needs across employers of all sizes.

Core: Comprehensive gum disease management

  • Availability: Offered at no additional cost for eligible groups with 2-149 employees and as an optional buy-up for groups with 150+.
  • Benefit description: Provides enhanced coverage for gum disease care for eligible members with certain chronic health conditions. These include diabetes, heart disease, stroke, lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, oral cancer, organ transplant and pregnancy – conditions with an established connection to gum disease.

Premier: Expanded chronic condition support and cavity prevention

  • Availability: Offered as an optional buy-up at an additional cost for eligible groups with 150+ employees already enrolled in Smile for Health Wellness Core.
  • Benefit description: Expands cavity prevention support for eligible members with certain health conditions associated with an increased risk of tooth decay. These include autism, cancer (other than oral), gastroesophageal reflux disease, Parkinson’s disease, Sjögren’s syndrome and vitamin deficiency. Premier members with systemic sclerosis may qualify for Core benefits due to the condition’s association with an increased risk of gum disease.

“Because the mouth is connected to nearly every system in the body, oral health is a crucial part of whole-body health,” said Dr. Allen. “By getting the right dental care, individuals at higher risk of cavities and gum disease due to certain chronic conditions can address issues earlier – or avoid them altogether – before treatment becomes more complex and costly.”
